I’ve spent the last few days trying out ScribeFire. ScribeFire is a Firefox extension that serves as a blogging client; you don’t need to navigate to your blog’s backend or open an external client to write and publish posts quickly any more. I decided to give it a go after entering a competition there (I suppose that means the competition is doing its job!).

There’s a little icon that sits in Firefox’s bottom status bar, and when you click it the application pops up, taking roughly half of the browser’s screen space. You can then drag and drop and manipulate content with ease or just get to writing with your research material always visible, rather than flicking back and forth between tabs (or windows, if you use an external blog client).

ScribeFire is a good client for all bloggers, but it’s particularly good for those who write blogs like Boing Boing or Lifehacker - short posts that link to other resources. Since you need to surf a lot to write that kind of blog, I bet ScribeFire can shave off a lot of wasted time throughout the day.

I wrote this post with ScribeFire and it was a smooth experience. I wish I could change the default writing font, but either I can’t find the setting or it’s stuck the way it is.

ScribeFire is a time-saver for busy bloggers. Go download it and see for yourself - it’s helped me a lot over the past few days and I’m glad I gave it a shot.
